My 2017 Florida Travel Resolution

Yes, it’s true. I’ve fallen victim to the time honored tradition of setting a new year’s resolution. But I’m only setting one, a fun one, and it’s all about Florida travel in 2017. My Florida-born-and-raised heart is aglow just thinking about it.

I resolve that once a month I will either visit a Florida beach or visit Florida springs.

Sounds super easy right? Last year I set up my Florida travel list and I’m fairly proud of what I experienced. I accomplished much of the list, including an awesome weekend at Loews Don CeSar Resort, two nights at the incredible Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort, and celebrated my birthday in Amelia Island. But there are a few experiences that I didn’t get to, and although I enjoyed a lot of Florida fun that wasn’t on the list, I feel a small bit of disappointment.

So this year I’m not being as specific with my Florida travel list, yet it is focused enough to give me a target for which to aim.

I already started 2017 properly and accomplished my once a month goal of going to the beach. I headed to Cocoa Beach Pier.

I had a nice time, it filled me with content  and joy to begin the year in beautiful weather, sunny skies, sandy toes, and salt water. Being a Florida Native it’s hard to ignore the call of the sea.

Cocoa Beach Pier let me down just a tiny bit. It’s very “touristy” and the food quality lacked flavor and freshness. However, it was relatively affordable with $5 draft beers and $10 for a grouper appetizer that ate like a meal.

Parking at Cocoa Beach Pier is $15.00, cash only. This seems a bit excessive, that’s close to theme park pricing. This does give you access to the end of the pier which juts out into the ocean providing a unique look at all the activity on the beach and in the water.

I’m glad I checked it out, but I don’t have a pressing desire to go back. Instead, I’ll head to New Smyrna Beach and do more exploring there, and of course a visit to Clearwater Beach has to happen too.

I look forward to sharing my adventures at the beach and Florida springs each month as I fulfill my 2017 Florida travel resolution! Thanks for following along, make it a great year!
